October is here! We’re still doing some weeding of the late fall veggies. We’re going to plant a little more lettuce today, and sow the last round of turnips, arugula, and radishes. We’re collected the garlic that we’ll plant in about two weeks and the over-wintering onions are getting bigger in their cell trays in the greenhouse. All the popcorn is hanging in the greenhouse, drying. But the strawberries and over-wintering flowers are in the ground! It’s been really dry for the past few weeks, so we’re irrigating again. There is a good chance of rain on Friday, but “they” said the same thing for Monday, and no rain materialized. The next harvest that’s on our list is the sweet potatoes. We may start digging them up on Thursday.
The tomatoes are on their way out. We’re going to start clearing out the tomatoes from the high tunnels to get ready to plant some over-wintering greens and more flowers.

The Bon Bon winter squash was one of the taste test winners at our farmers winter squash lunch last week. It’s deep orange, flavorful, and sweet. Bake it whole to keep all the juices & flavor inside. Careful when you cut it open.
