Farm Update 3/2/10

Hello again.
The farm is trying to come back to life after the bitter cold of the last few weeks, but winter doesn’t want to end. The greenhouse is already half full of tiny little plants. Now we just need the fields to dry out enough so the ground will be ready when those little plants are ready! To be honest we’re getting pretty nervous. All our fruit trees have been pruned and mulched. Next up is the blueberry patch, pruning and mulching. If the weather stays fairly nice we could start having worker members out to help with that big project. We’re hatching all sorts of plans to expand our rhubarb patch and planning on a major addition to the blueberries this Fall. We’re still interviewing a few possible interns, trying to find the right person to work with us this season. Our little 1948 cultivating tractor is at the shop getting souped up for the season: a new electrical system, hydrolic lifts, and new brakes, improvements that we should have made years ago!

We’re expanding the CSA by 10 shares, so tell your friends and neighbors that we have space available this year. Thanks to those of you who have already gotten someone to contact us.
And remember that the balance of your share cost is due April 1st. Thanks.

All worker members do a couple of knee bends, take a big stretch, and start thinking about coming out to the farm. We would really like to have a couple of people out next week. We need to put the new plastic on the greenhouses and that take many hands! Let us know if you can make it out early next week.

We can’t wait to start growing some food!
